A Special Word From Our President
The Tennessee Temple family extends its prayer support to the family of Dr. John W. Rawlings as he went home to be with the Lord on January 30, one day after his 99th birthday. Dr. Rawlings was one of the most respected and influential Baptist leaders of the 20th century and continued to be active in ministry until shortly before his death. Dr. Rawlings was not only the pastor of one of the largest churches in the U.S. but also had an enormous impact through his instrumental work in the establishment of the Baptist Bible Fellowship and Baptist Bible College. Along with his sons, his founding and carrying out the ministry of the Rawlings foundation has resulted in tens of thousands of souls coming to Christ. In addition, Dr. Rawlings and the Rawlings family have been very generous supporters of Tennessee Temple University for many years. I am thankful for having had the privilege of visiting with Dr. Rawlings on two occasions during my first year here at TTU. He very graciously and warmly received me as he sought to encourage me in my work at TTU. It was a blessing to hear his insights concerning great events in Baptist life that he helped shape. I attempted to soak in all that I could from a man that had wisdom that came from decades of a walk with God. In this time of loss, it is a comfort to the family and to all who knew him that he is now seeing the fulfillment of what he so faithfully preached. We pray that as even Dr. Rawlings is now with the Lord, the presence of the Lord will be with the Rawlings family in a special way.
