Deaf Studies
Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a concentration in deaf studies.
This degree is specially designed for those who desire to pursue a career within or ministry to the deaf community but do not wish to become an interpreter. This degree prepares students for work in the behavioral sciences and for positions such as independent living specialists, residential living personnel, vocational rehabilitation counselors, etc.
Program Requirements
In addition to the General Education Core, all students must complete all the requirements for a degree in Psychology. The Deaf Studies concentration includes, ASL 1 - 4, Presentations in ASL, ASL Linguistics, Deaf Literature, Deaf Culture, and an internship in the behavioral science field with the deaf. Graduation requirements include taking the GRE and a rating of Advanced or higher on the Sign Language Communication Proficiency Interview.
