Snow Days 2011

The first time in possibly at least a decade Tennessee Temple University has had to close down due to inclement weather. Sunday, January 9th 2011 it was predicted by all local and national weather agencies that Chattanooga would receive close to 5” of snow. Grocery stores where emptied of milk, bread, and soup fixings. Many local schools, businesses and churches made early choices to close for the following day. TTU being one of those establishments, with our basketball teams, student leadership, new spring students and intensive class students already on campus everyone was a buzz with anticipation of the snow. It was much like waiting for Santa Clause to arrive on Christmas Eve. Everyone’s eyes where pointed toward the sky a little bit in disbelief and little with hope. Close to 1 a.m. the snow began to fall and by 2 a.m. there was enough to play in and the TTU students couldn’t wait one more minute to enjoy the wonderful fluffy snow. The male residents of Gene Lenon challenged the female residents of DeMoss Hall to a snow ball fight chaperoned by the Resident Director’s. It is a memory that I’m sure will live on in these TTU student’s minds for some time to come. Monday January 10th, 2011 the snow day fun continued with close to 10” of fresh snow on the ground. The students celebrated their snow day with snow ball fights, out door volley ball, snow man making, and much more. Now on day 3 of TTU being a Winter Wonderland students are starting to venture out of the dorms and campus area to see how the rest of the Scenic City is handling this winter weather. All our students are being advised daily through the TTU website and Campus Leadership to weather conditions and how to be safe while traveling around campus and out into the city.

We would like to thank our facilities crew for salting and shoveling our sidewalks so that our students, faculty, and staff can travel around campus safely.

With weather still being tough to travel in TTU has pushed the first day of classes back to January 18th, 2011. For further TTU closings due to weather please keep checking www.tntemple.edu.
