Soccer Field Construction
A long-awaited, community development project, Highland Park Commons, celebrated the groundbreaking on Monday, April 18th at 1:30 p.m.
Highland Park Commons is located at intersection of Union Avenue and Willow Street on the 2000 block of Union Avenue in Highland Park.
The project was conceived in 2009 with the idea of bringing soccer facilities to a growing, yet underserved, Latino population in Chattanooga. Three founding partners, the Maclellan Foundation, the St. Andrews Center and Tennessee Temple University, along with the Lyndhurst Foundation, share the common purpose and mission of promoting the revitalization of the neighborhood through the development and improvement of public recreational and green spaces. The goal of the organization is to create a sustainable open space using soccer as a means to initiate additional activities and events that will better connect the residents of Highland Park and the surrounding neighborhoods.
Additional features of the park will include a playground, a pavilion, an open air market area and a community garden. These additional features of the park are vitally important to the mission of Highland Park Commons.
Construction of Highland Park Commons is expected to take seven months.
