Meet Coach Latonia Allen

Latonia Allen will be entering her 1st season at Tennessee Temple University as the Head Volleyball Coach.  She comes to Tennessee Temple after four seasons at Division II Davis and Elkins College.  Coach Allen has a Bachelors of Science in Athletic Training from Alderson Broaddus College and a Masters of Science in Athletic Training from California University of PA.

            Latonia Allen is from Greencastle, PA where she was a three sport athlete at Greencastle Antrim High School.  She helped lead the volleyball team to several district championships and was awarded Mid Penn Player of the Year her senior year.  She continued her career at Division II Alderson Broaddus College where she was the 2001 WVIAC Freshmen of Year, four time 1st Team WVIAC All Conference, 2 time All Region, and the 2004 WVIAC Player of the Year.  She set a school record for 28 kills in a match as well as other statistical records during her career. 

            While at Davis and Elkins College, she helped turn around a struggling program.  They were able to have consecutive 20 win seasons as well as the programs 1st ever win at the WVIAC Tournament.  She recruited and coached four all conference players who were able to set new statistical records for the program.  She also developed West Virginia Highland Elite Volleyball Club, the areas first traveling volleyball club for middle school and high school girls.

            “I am so blessed for the opportunity that God has given me to coach volleyball at Tennessee Temple University.  I truly feel this is where I am meant to be and I look forward to the upcoming season.  I hope my enthusiasm and energy ignites something in the girls and we are able to take this program to new heights.  I will dedicate 100% to this job and hope that the girls are as excited as I am to get in the gym and start working.”

 

Meet Assistant Coach Liva Brivule

 

Liva Brivule will be entering her 1st season as the Assistant Volleyball Coach at Tennessee Temple University.  She comes to Tennessee Temple after assisting Coach Allen at Division II Davis and Elkins College in WV.  Liva has a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Kent State and will be graduating from Tennessee Temple University in 2014 with a Masters Degree in Education Leadership.

Liva Brivule is from Riga, Latvia where she was a member of her National Team from 2005-2006, and placed 2nd in the Latvian National Beach Volleyball Championship in 2007.  She also played in the European Beach Volleyball Championship Cup in 2007.  was a member of the Kent State Volleyball team in Ohio from 2009-2011.  She was Second Team All Mid American Conference and also received the Division I Mid American Conference Offensive Player of the Week award. She currently will be training for the Latvian National Team from April to July 2012.

“I couldn’t be more excited that Liva was able to join me at Tennessee Temple University.  She brings extreme knowledge of the game and a passion for strong work ethic and dedication to the sport.  I am completely confident in her on court coaching abilities and she will bring fresh ideas and experience for the girls.  She will be a huge asset to the University as well as to the volleyball program,” says Coach Allen.

“I believe that good things come to those who work hard.  Success is not just a given.  It requires time, effort, and complete focus in every aspect of your life.  I am serious about volleyball and I hope that the girls will see that it is necessary for us to turn this program around,” says Liva Brivule.
