Women's Soccer

The best word to describe the feeling around Men's and Women's soccer right now at temple must be excitement. In what must be described as a rebuilding year, both programs were taken over in December of last year by Coach Liburd. Coach Liburd and Coach Awotula started with a men's program with four returners and a women's program with seven returners. This year they built squads with the programs looking to return 17 and 12 players respectively for next year. Each program individually won more games than the two programs won collectively last year, and both made appearances in the NCCAA regional tournament.

Other highlights include the women's program showing some glaring improvements in just 3 years of existence, seeing the team concede the fewest goals in their existence: Year 1 -103, Year 2 – 169, and this year 69. The team also received its first clean sheet in school history, followed by two more as the year went on. We also saw the team place its first two players on the All Region team with one more also receiving votes. All this while only losing one player from each team to graduation, Ignacio Ortiz on the Men's side, who slots straight into a Graduate Assistant role in the Spring, and Alesha Mitchell who plans to follow suit in the Fall.

If all this is not a sign of growth and success of the programs, take into consideration that at the recently held recruit weekend hosted by Temple, we had over 70 players visit the campus! So for what God is doing with us "Excitement" is the word we use as the future looks bright.
